About Us
Mahatma Eye Research Foundation is a charitable society, registered under Govt. of Kerala (Reg no 767/2005), located at Kozhikode. Since its inception in 2005 we have been workin in the rehabilitation of blind and visually impired. Assisting visually challenged people and enabling them to live independent life through education, training, counseling, communication, technology and mobility. Now we want to provide training and use of modern digital gadgets for day to day life to make them self sufficient. Our mission is eradication of needless blindness and rehabilitation of blind and visually challenged. Governing body is headed by Dr.Aysha Guharaj, who is the current president of the foundation.
Eye health remains a major public health problem, in India. India is home to nearly
1/5th of world’s blind people: an estimated 18.7 million are blind and another two million
suffer from vision impairment. This alarming problem concerning vision of Indian citizen
can be overcome by rehabilitation and training in the use of optical and non-optical aids.
However this facility is scarce especially in our region.
Eye care facilities range from excellent in certain urban pockets to non-existent in remote
areas. Eye care facilities are expensive and unaffordable to majority of population. Our
venture is to ‘break the ice; the imbalance between rich and poor, urban and rural in the
eye care delivery system.
Primary service of an eye hospital is to provide visual rehabilitation service to its patient. In many ophthalmic hospital in Kerala as well as across India is rarely practiced. Training can never be completed unless the person has the right tool in his or her hand to get trained. We wish to establish a centre of excellence in visual rehabilitation with state-of-the-art facility along with the assistance of world class leader in this field - the Perkins School of Blind and Light House International. In the rehabilitation area this centre can provide free training and counseling services to people who lose their eye sight for various reasons and a store which makes available visual aid products for the patients.
Best way to support the visually challenged is by being involved. Donate to us to helps blind and visually impaired rehabilitation programme and be a supported
